Our board of directors

Larry is a co-founder and former executive director of Investec Bank Limited and has been instrumental in the creation and strategic development of several listed companies, including Capital Alliance Holdings Limited (Capital Alliance Life – acquired by Liberty Life; Capital Alliance Bank – now Braiṭ), Super Group Limited, Hosken Consolidated Investments Limited, SIB Holdings Limited, CorpGro Limited and Global Capital Limited. He also served as the past chairman of the boards of these companies. Previously, Larry sat on the boards of Softline Limited, JCI Limited and Absa Technologies Holdings Limited and was a former chairman of a number of non-listed company boards both in South Africa and abroad, including Steinhoff Limited (UK) and Pressure Life Limited (AU).

Larry is the current executive chairman of Global Capital Proprietary Limited and the current Chairman of Bidvest Limited, Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited, Morecorp Group and Selldirect Marketing Proprietary Limited.

Brett has an impressive entrepreneurial record of founding and operating many businesses across various industries. These include the sale and distribution of fast-moving consumer goods and electronics.

He currently serves as a Director of various Blu Label companies and plays a key role in developing the Group’s strategy and is instrumental in structuring and negotiating all of Blu Label’s strategic corporate finance transactions.

His achievements have earned him a number of prestigious nominations, accolades and awards. These include the Absa Bank Jewish Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2003) and the Absa Jewish Business Achiever Non-Listed Company Award (2007), which he won jointly with his brother Mark. Brett was nominated as an Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur SA finalist for 2007.

In 2010, he received the Liberty Life Award for a Remarkable Success Story in the David Awards. He was a finalist in the Top Young Entrepreneur category of the African Access National Business Awards. In 2011, he shared the Top Entrepreneur accolade in the African Access National Business Awards with Mark.

After several years as a successful commodities trader, Mark became an entrepreneur, operating various small businesses across different industries.

Serving as a Director of various Blu Label companies, Mark is responsible for Blu Label’s technology and digital strategy and spearheads the execution of Blu Label’s growth strategy, the integration of acquisitions and the development of the IT architecture.

The business community has frequently recognised his leadership capabilities. Mark received the Absa Jewish Business Achiever Non-Listed Company Award (2007), together with his brother, Brett. He was also an Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur SA finalist for 2007.

In 2010, Mark was voted Top IT Personality of the Year by ITWeb and was a finalist in the Top Young Entrepreneur category of the African Access National Business Awards. In 2011, he shared the Top Entrepreneur accolade in the African Access National Business Awards with Brett.

Happy is a senior corporate lawyer with over 25 years’ experience, offering specialist skills in public interest law, constitutional law, renewable energy projects, information technology, corporate governance, regulatory advisory services and public-private partnerships. She has advised many clients, including private and public companies, state-owned entities, energy companies, financial institutions, construction and engineering firms, listed organisations, telecommunications companies and information and technology firms.

Happy was a partner at Werksmans Attorneys for nearly 10 years. She currently serves in a non-executive capacity on several boards, including Bright Light Solar VCC, ProfitShare Partners, Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited and as a Trustee for the Investec Entrepreneurship Development Trust. As a member of these boards, she also sits on various subcommittees such as the Remuneration, Audit and Risk, Nominations, Social and Ethics committees. She serves as the Chairperson of the Momentum Group Foundation. She also serves as a Senior Consultant in the Energy, Infrastructure and Corporate departments at CMS-RM Partners.

Nomavuso is a Chartered Accountant (SA). She spent one year at Deloitte before joining SizweNtsaluba VSP (formerly Nkonki Sizwe Ntsaluba).

While at SizweNtsaluba, she specialised in consulting, internal auditing and attest functions. Following the introduction of the Public Finance Management Act, Nomavuso identified an opportunity and started the corporate governance division, which housed the internal audit services. Nomavuso was also involved in staff development and training as a staff partner for five years. She later joined the Imperial Group as the Group Audit and Risk Executive. While there, she introduced Training Outside Public Practice (TOPP). When Nomavuso left Imperial, her 11 TOPP trainees were spread across the group. She continued consulting for Imperial to ensure they received adequate training.

Nomavuso was appointed to serve on the board of Imperial Bank as a non-executive director representing Imperial until the bank surrendered its banking licence in September 2010. She was further appointed as an independent non-executive director at Nedbank Group.

Lindiwe is a Chartered Accountant (SA) with extensive governance, finance and business experience. Having worked in investment banking – property and infrastructure finance – and also as Chief Financial Officer, she is an experienced non-executive director, having previously served on the boards of various listed and unlisted companies including Woolworths, Massmart, Group 5, Torre, Sea Harvest, Cell C Limited and PetroSA.

Lindiwe is committed to sustainable business practices and ethical governance, underpinned by her doctoral studies on ESG integration and decarbonisation strategies.

Dean is a Chartered Accountant (SA) who has led Blu Label’s finance function since joining the Board in 2013, and has worked alongside the Group’s founders for more than two decades. He trained at PwC, completing his articles there and remaining after qualification to work on the audits of a range of large corporates and multinational companies.

In 2003 he joined BSC Technologies, a business founded by Mark and Brett Levy, where he went on to become financial director, before moving to The Prepaid Company as Financial Director in 2005. As Financial Director of Blu Label, Dean serves on the boards of various Group companies and has been instrumental in shaping the Group’s governance and financial reporting frameworks. He also serves as alternate to Brett Levy on the Social, Ethics and Transformation Committee.

Jerry has held various positions in government and the business sector, including that of Director for Commerce and Industry at SAICA and Managing Director of the Black Management Forum (“BMF”), where he also served on the board of the BMF investment company.

He was later appointed as the CEO of Business Unity South Africa (“BUSA”). He has also served as chairman of the SADC Employer Group and the EU-Southern African Business Council. In addition to representing business at Nedlac, he served as a member of the King Committee on Corporate Governance, the National Anti-corruption Forum and the SADC Business Forum.

In 1998, he was appointed Public Service Commissioner. He later served as a member of the National Planning Commission, which developed the country’s first National Development Plan and as a member of the Presidential B-BBEE Advisory Council. Jerry served as chairman and director of several SOEs, including the Mpumalanga Gambling Board, Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency and the State Information Technology Agency Proprietary Limited. He previously served on the boards of PPC Limited and Goliath Gold Limited and held the position of Chairman of Netcare Limited and adviser to Citibank. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Business Management, Unisa.

Jerry is currently executive chairman of Palama, an investment company he co-founded and also serves on the boards of Cell C Limited and Sibanye-Stillwater Limited.

Khati is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and Chartered Management Accountant (UK) with extensive expertise in corporate leadership, finance, governance, business re-engineering, real estate development, regulatory affairs and investor relations.

A founding partner of Gobodo Incorporated, he spent eight years in its forensic and investigative accounting division. For 20 years, he served as an executive director at Sun International Limited, delivering corporate services for a listed global hospitality and regulated gambling company.

Khati currently chairs the board of enX Group Limited and serves as an independent non-executive director at Stadio Holdings Limited and other entities. He contributes through key subcommittees, including Audit and Risk, Investment, Remuneration, Nominations and Social and Ethics.

Lindsay is a Chartered Accountant (SA) with over three decades of executive leadership and board experience across JSE-listed and multinational businesses. He has held senior leadership roles at leading South African companies, including Adcock Ingram, Aveng, Group Five and Bidvest, where he built a strong track record in strategy, operations, corporate governance, capital allocation and business transformation. Lindsay has extensive experience scaling businesses, driving sustainable growth and leading complex organisations through periods of change. He has also chaired and served on numerous boards across the trading and distribution, industrial, services and healthcare sectors, bringing deep commercial insight and governance expertise to the Board.
